  1. Hi there! I've got a question regarding the screenshots: how do you manage to get such good outdoor pictures? Do you use some mod that changes the light ingame, edit pictures or it's just ultra-high end computer that makes that? ;)

I manage to get pretty decent screenshots indoors and near (but not too near) warm lightsources (like candles) but the vanilla sunlight in the day is pretty awful. Especially pale characters (vampires, etc) get those horrible, flat faces in full natural light, while they can look good for example inside Tona's Store studio. Any tips, please?

Really nice blog and screenies, btw :)

  2. Effique, thank you for your comment.

I do have a decent video card but when I take a picture of my character outdoors I like to face them away from the sun, so I do not use the sun as a light source. and I use this: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16493.

I prefer to use the L gems and I just 'tcl' and drop them so they are parallel to my characters face. Depending on the weather I either have to stand right next to them or pretty far away.

    I hope that helps (:

  5. You disabled comments in your last tutorial, so I'll keep spamming here ;)

I figured that one already, so I'll go off topic. :P btw, thanks for the skeleton, it solved some of my problems, but I encountered a new one: body!

While I was trying to make your Winter-outfit (or sth similar, but with covered back) myself I had this problem: When you add clothing for parts of body that are visible in the mod (like adding sleeves to a sleeveless corset) sometimes the body mesh is clipping. So, you can remove the body mesh. But then, it goes with some other parts, like the cleveage. And then, ingame my character had a giantic transparent gap on her chest. Or other example - in the dress that is a base for the Winter-outfit corset, there is a big neck-thing. A collar with jewellery or sth. When I remove it, there's a gap on the chest, no skin underneath.

Sometimes this body mesh comes in big parts (like chest+arms+back) and when I add things to cover them, they clip, but when I remove them, all skin parts become invisible. So I spent some time searching other meshes for cleveages cut exactly in the shape that I needed, but that's just absurd and puzzle-like (they never fit!). I guess I'm doing something terribly wrong, or maybe there is some library with all the body/skin parts in small pieces?

I now I'm quite terrible at explaining what I mean, but I hope you can make some sense of it. To make things short, it's "Help, my legs are invisible" problem.

Yeah, and sorry for the "can't do it myself, help help help" attitude. You turned out to be one of the nicest and most helpful people in the community, and no good deed goes unpunished ;) ;)

  6. Sorry about disabling comments in the other post; I am somewhat OCD XD.

Anyways I think I understand your problem, and it's a problem I run into myself a lot. You basically have to fit different body meshes to the mash-up like a puzzle. Sometimes default ones will work (I keep all the HGEC meshes in a separate folder on my desktop). and if you can't find a body mesh that will fit and you don't have blender you pretty much have to improvise by adding things over the invisible parts. Or searching through your mods looking to see if any other body mesh will fit.

It defiantly can be like a puzzle and that is usually the hardest part of nif-bashing; is finding a body mesh that will fit. Sometimes some clothing and armor mods will have body parts that fit perfectly... The lower body mesh from tona airy lily for example is crotch less so if you have pants that clip in the crotch you can use those... but if you use those with underwear the butt will be invisible. :p

Usually if there is a mesh that the neck or wrists are invisible I can replace that body mesh with one of the upper body meshes from the HGEC master file. That is why I like to keep all the HGEC body meshes in a folder somewhere on my desktop.

Hope that helps ): ...but yep, it is like a big puzzle sometimes XD.

  7. Thank you!

Good points: I wasn't a moron THIS TIME.
Bad: It will require some work.

Still, it was such an unpleasant shock to me ;) When I found your site my Oblivion CD almost broke to pieces (well, it has been intensively used) and the new one was being shipped, so I couldn't check the meshes in-game. So I gleefully made about a dozen meshes and retextures thinking that they will be just added over the naked body mesh. When my Oblivion finally arrived I quickly made an esp and had an awful WTF moment. ;)

Oh, and I'm glad you've put back the move-items note. It seems pretty easy, but you'd be amazed what difficulties people stumble upon. For example, until recently I wasn't aware of the hue/saturation or color balance feature in GIMP and I made a pretty nice retexture of Lethal Majesty just very carefully selecting red parts and clicking "colorize" one by one (facepalm). It obviously took some time. :D

  8. When I was starting out I had a hard time with some simple things too that are now second nature to me almost. That is one of the reasons I started posting tutorials, because sometimes it's the simple things that are the biggest road blocks (:. I am glad that they are beneficial. When I started re-texturing and combining meshes; I know I would have loved a simple tutorials with pictures XD.

  9. Hi, it's me again. There's one thing about creating normal map that I'm not sure about. It's purpose is to make certain parts more convex and shiny, right?

What you did in the tutorial is:

    1. Open the original normal map
    2. Clear it
    3. Make a normal map from the texture
    4. Copy it over cleared normal map
    5. Clear it again
    6. Save

I don't really understand what's the point? What was the puropse of using that normalmap GIMP plugin if you erased it all? Did it change anything at all? Why set scale to 4.000 if you saved get saved by that?

    ReplyDelete
  10. sorry that might be kinda confusing how I do it XD, hopefully I can explain it well enough.

The normal map creates the depth and psychical texture of a mesh. Even though I erased it, what I saved will still be there. I erased it so it does not show up shiny in game.

When I erase it the first time, it's to make sure that all the blue parts are gone (I am partially color-blind so the more opaque it is; I can't see it...at all). Also I like to make sure all the blue is gone so when I paste the new normal map there is none of the old normal map underneath. (which I could also just ctrl+x , but sometimes that does not work and pasting will cause my GIMP to crash... so I just got in the habit of using the eraser tool :p.)

I erase it again to make sure all the blue is gone, because the more blue means the shinier it will be in game (for example this is what my silverlight armor looks like http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_1y11Wljqw4/TbBjWLBfWAI/AAAAAAAAAUs/U8ouHKYSh90/s1600/ScreenShot2682.jpg after the normal map is erased; a lot less shiny (:. )

but even though I erased it, the texture is still there, I am just making it see-through so it's not shiny. You can choose to not erase it all the way, which is what most modders do because some people like it to have a little shine, but again I cant see it at all to judge how much there is so I just erase it completely.

I hope that explain is well enough.

    hihi,

I'm a follower of your blog, in fact was after reading your tutorials that I began to understand the game. Tyvm for the enlightment you gave me.
I love the screenshots you have on your blood elf and I recently installed that race on my PC, The thing is altough I love her face, her body is not my taste. I like her to have a bit of pubic hair and more vivid nipples. I saw that your blood elf had that. Could you please tell me where can I get that body?

Ty for your time and patience and sorry for my bad english.

    Kind regards
    Maria

  13. edit: The body textures I use are mostly custom so that's why I am up uploading them. They are a combination of Ozmo's, Krista's, MSE, and some of my re-texturing.

What was wrong with it was the texture path was saying "darc hunter"...but the folder with the actual textures was called "dark hunter".

All I did was click on every single item, and change the texture path to textures>dark hunter.
